JAK Rabbitry is now raising poultry!
We are offering meat, chicks, adult birds, and farm fresh eggs to our community.
With the rising prices of feed and...well...EVERYHTING, please understand that our prices may fluctuate, but we strive to keep our birds in good health, and to meet and exceed your expectations for farm fresh eggs and poultry.
Eggs
Our packs are of mixed colors, if you would like to request a solid colored dozen, we're willing to work with you depending on the season and the demand. We have eggs in white, green, blue, and all shades of pink, biege, and brown. Prices are $3/dozen.
Our chickens eat an all natural pelleted feed, in addition to fresh vegetables, grasses, alfalfa, sunflower seeds, oats, and corn. No hormones, steroids, or antibiotics.
No battery cages! Our hens are cooped with and indoor and outdoor partition in which they can come and go as they please. They get sunlight, fresh air, and are free to peck at the ground as much as they please!
Birds: Here we currently raise Ameraucanas, Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, Easter Eggers, and soon to be Jersey Giants. We offer chicks, adolescent, and sometimes adult birds. Availibility will definitely chang throughout the year, so feel free to ask!
Chicks we hatch year round. Prices again will vary depending on the time of year. But here is a general guideline for young chicks between 1 day and 1 week of age. Prices will go up with age.
- Buff Orpingtons: $3-$4
- Easter Eggers: $2-$3
- Ameraucanas: $3-$4.50

Meat
We also offer fully processed, fresh whole birds. They can be any of the above mentioned breeds/crosses. We try to raise a lot of dual purpose birds, which are great for both laying and as meat birds. We only have our birds processed when the population gets too high, so if you are interested in fresh chicken, please ask to be put on our mailing list. We will send out a group email a week or so before the birds are to be processed, and you will at this time be able to reserve your birds. Please be aware at these times we have a limited number of birds available, and we will be serving on a first come first serve basis. You will be notified of the processing date and we ask you pick your birds up as soon as possible.
Most of our processed poultry are roosters. All of our roosters are free-ranged, with constant access to fresh grasses and insects of all kinds. We supplement them with corn, oats, and sunflower seeds. The roosters are much larger than the hens, so also expect them to be shaped a little different than birds you've seen at the stores (which are hens). The legs are longer and the bodies are larger.
Birds come plucked, cleaned, and in a freezer bag. If you can pick them up shortly after processing, they'll be refrigerated. Any time after you can expect them to have been frozen for you.
Currently we will not have birds available until Spring 2012. Please ask to be on our mailing list and you will be notified as soon as possible.
