About Us

JAK Rabbitry is a small rabbitry located in Western Pennsylvania about 30 miles North of Pittsburgh. We specialize in Dutch, and French Lops, and strive to breed and raise not only outstanding show animals, but well-mannered pets and 4H projects. Each one of our babies is handled since birth, and extensively throughout their lives until they are sold. Our rabbits are also involved in helping the community and have been used for demonstrations for grade school students, Girl Scouts, and our local 4H Club. The rabbits also give back to the community by visiting senior homes, and are a big hit amongst the residents, who enjoy an unusual visitor with big ears and feet whom they can cuddle and learn about. Employees at Barberry Farm of Sewickley, PA also enjoy ''Bunny Thursday'' every Thursday where they help socialize young babies and watch each litter grow week by week. We are always looking for new places to take the bunnies to provide pet therapy or rabbit education. If you have a club or organization and would be interested in having a rabbity guest speaker, please call or email to set up a date.

A wide assortment of animals can be found at JAK Rabbitry, from chickens, cats, dogs, horses, and of course bunnies! Our animals are all considered our extended family and are held in the highest regard. We pride ourselves on fat, happy animals.

JAK Rabbitry also prides itself on it's ethics. Never have we sold a rabbit at auction, nor do we plan to as a quick way to get rid of excess stock. Each rabbit is viewed as our responsibility as the breeder, until the end of it's life. We occasionally will sell to approved pet stores, that being stores that do not sell their rabbits as reptile food, or as backyard breeding projects. We also only sell to stores who resell our animals at a high enough price to discourage the animal from being purchased as food. We only place rabbit in approved pet or show homes, and our rabbits have and will never be sold for consumption. We understand that snakes and people must eat too, just not our rabbits! We put so much time and care into our herd, and like children, we want to see them thriving and happy, wether it be at the rabbitry or in a loving new home, or on the show table. Each rabbit at JAK Rabbitry is tattooed with ''JAK'', so our animals can be tracked and traced. We have informed the local humane societies of our tattoo, in the event that members of our extended fur family have turned up. In which case, we will always take our rabbits back and take care of our own. We have recieved emails in the past of JAK Rabbits who have turned up here or there and we were able to provide the new owners with information on the rabbits who have since lost their pedigrees.

We have also vowed to help any rabbit or rabbit owner in need. We often answer emails from various owners who have encountered unsuaual health issues or behaviors, so if you have any questions regarding your pet, feel free to email! JAK Rabbitry is here to help the rabbit community, and we would be happy to assist you. Some people just like to bring their bunnies out to have their nails trimmed! And we are proud to offer simple services like this free of charge. If you are hesitant to take your rabbit to the vet or are worried about the cost, we would be happy to give our professional opinion. In no way are we a licensed vet, but we have 15 years of rabbit-raising experience to offer.

Honesty is a very serious code we abide by. Never will any visitor or buyer be cheated, decieved, or lied to. We are up front and honest about every animal we sell, as it is our belief that not only is a reputable and honest breeder hard to come by, but it is your every right as the buyer to make a properly informed and educated decision. Do not ever be afraid to ask questions, as this is exactly what a responsible pet owner does.

We hope you will enjoy your visit to JAK Rabbitry!
